Top Mobile Apps Gaining Traction in Last 12 Months
« on: May 02, 2016, 02:54:52 PM »
As per Sensor Tower data, Uber India saw the maximum downloading activity with 85% of its total installs (2012 to date) coming in the last 12 months. Ola, with 22mn total app downloads since 2012, was fifth on the list with over 70% of activity taking place in the last 12 months. Cross platform file transfer and sharing apps such as SHAREit and Xender ranked high. Being a mobile first country probably makes these apps important in the Indian context.

Within eCommerce, Amazon India witnessed maximum downloading activity followed by Flipkart, Myntra, Snapdeal and Paytm. Several music apps, such as Wynk, Saavn and Gaana, featured amongst the top apps in India. Hotstar, the OTT platform of Star India, with 34mn total app installs was significantly ahead of its peers such as Netflix (0.6mn) and Ditto TV (2.3mn).

On the social media side, imo (video calling) gained traction with a third on the chart above. Having said that, total app installs of 39mn were way lower than the 164mn of Whatsapp and 90mn of FB Messenger. Hike had 37mn total installs and ranked 20th in terms of installation momentum.
