Title: NDA & Modi Government's License Raj for Internet Economy
Post by: wiredlife on April 18, 2016, 08:00:44 AM
The Narendra Modi led NDA's fresh lease of energy has translated into a range of interventions which distort the free market and could
herald the beginning of a new type of License Raj. For example,

The NDA has allowed 100% FDI in ecommerce but with bizarre riders (eg. the site has to have a marketplace (not inventory-oriented) model, the site cannot discount it products, the site has to have a specific imported:local mix, etc.

In a bid to encourage "start-ups", the NDA has said that companies need a certificate from the Government to be deemed a "start-up" and thus avail of the tax breaks that the NDA believes will catalyse innovation in India.
