Airtel has signed a definitive agreement with Aircel to acquire the ?right to use? 20 MHz of 2300-spectrum in eight circles under Spectrum Trading guidelines.
With this deal, Airtel will have 490 MHz of mobile broadband (3G + 4G) spectrum on aggregate basis across the 22 circles, versus 486 MHz of "all 4G" spectrum owned by Reliance Jio. Bharti now has 4G-spectrum (i.e. 1800 or 2300) in all 22 circles, and both 1800/2300 frequencies in 13 circles.
With this purchase, Airtel's aggregate spectrum holding (2G+3G+4G) would increase to 679 MHz, which is 40% higher than spectrum held by Jio currently (Jio would be able to reduce the gap post 850 acquisition via trading/sharing).
