Real-estate online classifieds market in India
« on: December 17, 2015, 11:13:01 PM »
Real-estate was among the early verticals to witness both online classifieds as well as entry of dedicated online players (at-least 3 of the major online real-estate portals are c10 years old). Despite this, increase in online share of total spend has been at a modest pace as developers still prefer traditional avenues such as print and out-of-home (OOH) advertising. A recent study by Google found developers in India spend only 6-7% of their ad spends online even though Internet influences more than 50% of purchase decisions of home buyers. Comparatively, in the US, online share of total ad spends in real-estate is 70% and almost 100% of purchase decisions are online influenced.

Online real-estate classifieds portals
99acres started in 2005 Listing and subscription fee/Advertising fee
Magicbricks started in 2006 Listing and subscription fee/Advertising fee
IndiaProperty.com started in 2006 Subscription fee from users/Advertising
CommonFloor started in 2007 Advertising and vendor listing
Makaan.com started in 2007 Listing and Advertising fee
Indiahomes.com started in 2008 Brokerage/Transaction fee
PropTiger started in 2011 Brokerage/Transaction fee
Housing.com started in 2012 Subscription fee (annual/bi-annual)

We believe as the core Internet user segment enters the home-buying age over the next few years, their familiarity and high Internet usage would lead to increased reliance on Internet for their purchase decisions, in-turn attracting advertising spend online.
