Apple products are among the devices that most need enhancements to personal information protection, as they can hold not only schedules and photos but also data on number of steps walked, routes taken, and even heartbeat. We feel that on-screen fingerprint verification could be a key performance enhancement, not only for the protection of various applications and data but also for the spread of Apple Pay.
On-screen fingerprint verification will be realized by higher in-cell touch resolutions or by multi-layering. However, incell touch partly shares circuits and electrodes with the LCD, so progress will need to be made with higher pixel counts for the display. We also note the possibility that the sensor layer for Force Touch, which we expect the iPhone 6S to be equipped with, will be integrated with the display module. The aim here would be to streamline structures and costs and we think this would represent something of a milestone for the iPhone display.
