This is really astonishing that Buyers / active customer accounts are up 230% yoy on Amazon India The company has been adding 40,000 products per day this year taking the total number of SKUs from ~19mn at the beginning of the year to ~30mn now.
The number of sellers has grown more than 250% yoy and 90% of them utilize Amazon's logistics and warehouse services. Its fulfillment
capacity has tripled since the previous year and we believe that to be at around 2 mn sq ft now. Amazon believes that FBA, Easy Ship and programs of the like are solving the seller's problems by making it easier for the seller to reach customers. Also, some of its new apps are helping sellers manage inventory better and respond to customer inquiries.
Amazon Competing Against all e-Commerce Verticals
While Myntra and Jabong were considered the leaders in the fashion category, Amazon India started creating a splash across the country sometime in the middle of this year. In the recently concluded prefestive sale, the fashion segment saw 5x growth from that in the previous year and was among the top 3 categories along with electronics and home & kitchen. A few days back, Amazon India launched its furniture segment that will compete not only with vertical specialists such as Pepperfry and Urban Ladder, but also with Flipkart, which is becoming more aggressive in the space.
