Amazon announced in mid-2015 that it is planning to launch a Region in India in 2016. According to the company, tens of thousands of customers in India are already using AWS services through existing Edge locations in Chennai and Mumbai, as well as surrounding APAC Edge locations in Hong Kong, Singapore, Osaka, Manila, and Taipei. We believe it?s possible the India Region could be launched without additional Edge locations, given the two existing Edge locations in India in Chennai and Mumbai.
Launched in 2006, Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides infrastructure and platform cloud computing services with variable pricing. AWS works with roughly 1 million active customers, ranging from large enterprises like Netflix and General Electric to emerging startups. Services include computing, storage and content delivery, database, analytics, and various enterprise applications, among many other services.
