Jio Leasing More Towers to Improve 4G Coverage
« on: September 15, 2016, 11:36:16 PM »
Reliance Jio went live with 92,000 BTS and was looking to deploy more BTS (Base Transceiver Station) to improve its network quality. While no details on the timeline are mentioned, we believe that the new 25K BTS would be deployed in next 12-18 months with part of the deployment being immediate to improve its network quality.

Jio has signed new leasing agreements with tower companies - Indus Towers (subsidiary of Bharti Infratel), American Tower Corp (ATC) and GTL Infra (GTL) to plug gaps in its networks. The agreement is for 14,000 towers with Indus, 5,000 with ATC and 6,000 with GTL; 2) Jio has got 1% discount on towers where it is second tenant on Indus towers; 3) On ATC, as Jio is taking slots on completely vacant towers, it has got a 12.5% rebate and on GTL towers, that have slightly lower rentals than market, Jio has no special discount.
