Jio has been adding ~500,000 subscribers per day and incumbents expect growth to slow down in 3QFY17. Telcos are seeing usage shift to Jio's secondary SIM cards, and have been offering promotional tariffs to retain their high ARPU customers.
As per our discussion with the TRAI, current regulations do not prohibit Jio from offering new promotional tariffs after the current promotional offer ends. The regulator mentioned that current guidelines allow promotional tariffs to be valid only for 90 days. But regulations do not prohibit operators from filing for new promotional tariffs.
Interconnect charges are currently under consultation process and the regulator will take views from various stakeholders before issuing a tariff order.
