The Mega 2016 Telecom Spectrum Auction is likely to happen in September, which should include spectrum bands in 700mhz, 800mhz, 900mhz, 1800mhz, 2100mhz, 2300mhz and possibly 2500mhz. DOT is planning to complete carrier aggregation in 1800mhz spectrum (the most attractive band for 4G rollout) before the auction, which will create additional supply of 10mhz in 1800mhz. While it remains the largest auction in terms of quantity, our channel checks reveal interest is varied across bands.
We expect 1800mhz (post supply from carrier aggregation), 2100mhz (15mhz ? post Defence spectrum), 2300mhz may see higher interest due to its compatibility with new technologies (3G & 4G), and, significantly lower price than smaller bands.
