A premium phone is a device that offers a rich communication experience beyond voice telephony, such as gesture controls, advance camera functions, premium materials for case and hardware, and integrated email, social networking support and voice over
Internet Protocol (VoIP), and its price would be higher based on consumer perception. Premium phones predominantly use widely deployed OSs, such as Android, iOS and Windows Phone.

A basic phone is a voice-centric mobile device with enhanced features, such as a 4-inch screen with a resolution of 720 and higher and, often, a dual-core processor with integrated email, social networking support and voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Compared to premium phones, they typically feature lower quality cameras, displays and  materials. Typically 3G but moving to 4G from 2014 and beyond, these devices support data services, such as Web browsing and multimedia messaging. Products based on a
qwerty form factor aimed at quick messaging fall into this category.

Utility phones are voice-centric, entry-level mobile devices, generally low-cost, with limited specifications and functions. It is mainly targeted at emerging markets and firsttime users, and is often used for prepaid subscriptions. Most are from white-box vendors,
but the category also includes original design manufacturer handsets for branded devices, as well as proprietary OS-based phones from Nokia, TCL, Huawei and other first-tier brands.
