Can Airtel Counter Jio, with Focus on High ARPU Subscribers ?
« on: January 10, 2017, 11:38:04 AM »
Airtel has announced incremental data offer for a period of 12 months on select post-paid and pre-paid plans, targeting relatively high ARPU subscribers (>Rs345/month). This follows its Dec 8 announcement of unlimited voice plans. We expect this would lead to drop in
data realization but should be compensated by usage elasticity once Jio?s free offer ends. Airtel remains best placed and has been the most aggressive amongst incumbents in countering Jio.

Airtel has announced offer of free incremental data for pre-paid and postpaid users. The offer is aimed at relatively high ARPU subs and can be availed by non-Airtel as well as those Airtel users upgrading to 4G till Feb 28, 2017. Offer is applicable until Dec 31, 2017.

Post-paid Users Will get 3GB of incremental data over and above the existing allowance on MyPlan Infinity plans, which start at Rs549/month (MyPlan549 currently allows 3GB/month). This is nowhere near what Jio is offering at Rs 50 / GB, hence Airtel has to sweeten the 4G LTE Data Offer else consumers will move to Jio for 4G mobile Broadband usage.
