Qualcomm's Latest Research on LTE Chipsets
« on: February 03, 2016, 11:06:27 AM »
Qualcomm announced its latest Gobi chip, which is a 5th Gen LTE 20nm LTE-A Cat 10 modem that brings download speeds up to 450 Mbps and upload speeds of 100 Mbps. The latest chip also features improved carrier aggregation capabilities, capable of pooling resources from 3 different frequency bands at 20 MHz each (collectively 60 MHz) for 150 Mbps throughput per band, up from pooling 2 bands in the previous generation, and is thus able to achieve total throughput of 450Mbps. Envelope tracking for intelligent power management helped by QCOM?s RF360 module is another feature that uses variable voltage applied to the power amplifier like a ?HEMI? engine in a Chrysler pickup to give a power boost only when it?s needed. As with prior generations, another benefit of using Qualcomm?s Gobi chip is that provides Apple with one modem device that works across all global cellular standards and RF bands.

We expect this chipset to be incorporated in iPhone 7
