Volkswagen announced strategic investment in Gett, a global ride hailing provider, Toyota issued a press release announcing an MOU with Uber to explore collaboration, starting with trials, for ridesharing services.

This news could get investors to focus more intensely on the role of US automakers within emerging mobility opportunities. This also supports our general industry view around partnerships as now 3 large ?traditional? automakers have announced strategic partnerships with mobility service providers: GM/Lyft

The driverless era would strengthen the position of some OEMs because of the need for data-dependent regulatory fleet
certification?an area we felt GM was well-positioned for with Mobileye REM, OnStar, Lyft.  GM's key assets - Bolt & SuperCruise can enhance Lyft?s driver recruitment proposition thereby giving GM a direct hand in building the network. This could position GM for more lucrative economics in the driverless era than what?s commonly perceived for ?OEMs?.
