Per data from analytics firm SimilarWeb, Amazon India leads Indian e-commerce portals in terms of user visits on desktop and mobile website (combined). While we don?t have a long history of data available with us, Amazon?s desktop+mobile websites generated ~33-62% more visits per month compared to Flipkart, over seven months starting November 2015. We note that this data excludes traffic from apps.
Flipkart currently has 50-100 mn app installs on Google Play (media reports have quoted the company claiming to surpass the 50 mn count in Feb 2016), with 1.9 mn user ratings, compared to Amazon India?s 10-50 mn app installs with 0.7 mn user ratings. However, per app ranking data available from AppAnnie, the gap between Flipkart and Amazon India?s apps seems to be reducing. Strategically, the revival of Flipkart?s mobile website, and Myntra?s both desktop and mobile websites may indicate Flipkart?s intent of improving share among the non-app user base.
