Airtel Plans to Acquire Telenor / Uninor Spectrum
« on: January 24, 2017, 04:47:31 PM »
Videocon tried to acquire Telenor / Uninor India a year ago but eventually the former got sold to Airtel.

Airtel is reportedly in talks to acquire the entire spectrum of Telenor India. This acquisition, if true, would fit in well with Bharti's strategy of
acquiring spectrum (particularly 4G) from smaller players, as they have done in the recent past with acquisition of spectrum from Aircel, Qualcomm, Videocon and Augere wireless.

Telenor's spectrum is liberalized, and hence can be used for deploying 4G services by Airtel. Out of the 7 circles held by Telenor, in 4 of the circles (AP, Bihar, UP East and UP West), Airtel's spectrum is contiguous with that of Telenor. This would allow Airtel to make use of carrier aggregation in these 4 circles and boost their 4G capacity.
