Xiaomi recently released MiTalk 2015, the new version of its IM app, MiTalk (or MiLiao in Chinese). MiTalk 2015 has incorporated Xiaomi Forum and an online shopping center, allowing “MiFen” (fans of Xiaomi) to interact with each other more easily, and purchase various Xiaomi products.
Xiaomi has in addition integrated Chinese music streaming service XiaMi Music, and Microsoft chatbot Xiaobing, by cooperating with these outside companies. MiTalk has also added a basic location-based service, allowing users to find merchants or other users nearby. The company also revealed that the total registered users of MiTalk reached 70m as of 1H14, with DAU (daily active users) hitting 7.5m
Xiaomi Handset Expansion
Xiaomi claimed to have total shipments of 26.1m units (+271% YoY) as of 1H14, with revenues reaching RMB33b (+149% YoY). We note that the company seems to have accelerated its global expansion, especially targeting developing countries with large populations and significant economic potential. selling its products only through online channels. In its India Debut in July, Xiaomi claimed to have sold out all 100,000 units of its smartphone product Mi3 in 40 minutes.
In addition, we note that the company recently established a branch in Brazil, we expect it to start selling products by the end of this year.
