Google to invest in non-core businesses + Motorola Mobile

Google Non Core BusinessThe Google Management highlighted three key areas of focus outside of the core ad business.

Chrome-based hardware: Chromecast, and broadening distribution of Chromebooks in partnership with OEMs)
Digital Apps and Content: Google Play is rolling out into new regional markets, and Google is
working to add to the available content (including textbooks and partnerships with HBO and DC Entertainment).
Enterprise Software: New enterprise clients include Whirlpool (using Google Apps), Amtrak (using Google Maps), and Sanmina (using Google’s Cloud platform).

Motorola Mobiles Not a lot was said on the Moto X handset, but Google is making progress with the transition process. Management is pleased with the initial restructuring (in particular with the transformation of product quality), and now they are focusing on building the marketing and distribution system.

Brand Advertisers Shift Dollars to the Internet
Brand advertising dollars are the next major focus area for Google. The broader availability of longer-form video content on YouTube has helped Google bring more brand advertising dollars to the portal. Spending by CPG clients on YouTube display ads is up 75% from two years ago, and brand spending on YouTube’s video ads is growing faster than 75% y/y.
