Reliance Jio Targets Big Bang Nationwide Launch of Fiber Broadband, Wi-Fi & 4G LTE Services

Last month in a conference of Indian Telecommunications progress on 4G-LTE front, Reliance Jio’s B2B executive made a presentation and excerpts from the same are as under.

Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJio) has laid lot of stress on the fact that fibre connectivity is required [Even in 1999, Mukesh did the same which is now with RCom]. Reliance Jio plans to connect as many buildings with fibre as possible. Over the longer term, RJio’s offering will be a mix of fibre [FTTH], LTE and WiFi. Management explained that chargeable WiFi (not free) will be an integral part of the company’s roll-out strategy.

Reliance Jio Infocomm Moves Aggressively on M2M
Reliance Jio intends to target the upcoming M2M (machine to machine) communications market, with an eye on improving efficiency of industries, offices and home automation. On the B2B side, this could mean connecting machinery in factories for real-time information / insights. RJio is working with various entities of Reliance Group [Petroleum, Retail, Finance, Security Cameras, etc] to be one of the biggest customers on the B2B side, and hopes to use the leanings from Reliance to offer similar services to other enterprise customers.


Reliance Jio Infocomm is also working with manufacturers of not just handsets but also everyday appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines and water purifiers so that these devices can become smarter and connected over WiFi / LTE networks. RJio is also working with many start-ups that build such solutions.

HFCL completes 50% OFC Laying for Reliance Jio
HFCL (the company to which Reliance Jio has outsourced optic fibre rollout project nationwide) said that nearly 50% of the overall national fibre project for RJio has been completed, with this Reliance Jio’s fibre network now is quite comparable to those of the leading operators.

4G-LTE SmartPhones Set for Big Drop in Price
Representatives of Ericsson and ZTE presented at the conference. They explained that the chipset market is opening up to LTE rapidly, and most low-cost chipset vendors have also committed to multi-mode LTE chipsets in the coming months. They believe that quality LTE smartphones should be available for ~US$100-120 within a few quarters.
